1,600 Accommodation Buildings for Rio Tinto (Australia)

Mining camp accommodation across 13 separate sites was delivered in the rough, remote and challenging environment of Western Australia’s Pilbara. The client Rio Tinto – one of the world’s largest and most successful mining companies – welcomed 1,600 new accommodation buildings of 2, 3 and 4 Single Persons Quarters (i.e., 5,000 rooms). New laundries, utilities rooms, offices and ice-rooms were also part of the project.

Rhodes undertook full documentation and project coordination to confirm all details of design, engineering and specification then worked with a publicly listed Chinese company for the design, supply and delivery. The project necessitated several prototypes and production batches and was well served by daily client interaction management, ensuring all relevant standards, policies and requirements were met.
