Schools for remote children in Papua New Guinea
Many Papua New Guinean children are going to school for the first time in Rhodes built schools. 70 School Kit Sets, each comprising a double classroom, ablutions block and teacher’s house, were funded by the Australian government (DFAT). Rhodes designed the podium buildings so that they could be assembled from a finite set of consistent components but without compromising flexibility of lay out or site-sensitive design.
This is just one way Rhodes keeps the costs of vital community infrastructure projects as low as possible.
Rhodes redesigned and supplied the steel framed kit-sets offering a higher material durability and lower maintenance requirement compared to the previously specified timber kits – another cost saving for the client and the community. Rhodes is also engaged as the Construction Contractor for some of the sets.
